Catch-up

So, the new season! We've decided to go for shooting balls into the basket, parking in places, and bumping buttons. We don't think bumping buttons will need a special piece, so we'll just make sure that the robot has a hard piece on back.
We came up with a pretty wacky chassis design.

The grabber has also been coming along. We've decided on a semi-waterfall made of zip ties and surgical tubing. It'll flip the balls into a conveyor belt that will take the balls up to a pair of flywheels that will launch the balls up and away.
Yes. It's a hexagon. Still, it's the first chassis in years that doesn't bound the box. We're building it out of the channels from last year's field. The 45 degree angles are going to be a pain, but bsi might be giving us machined parts. We don't know yet, but when we do we'll update you. Anyway, we got the 90 degree joints done.
We had some trouble making them, the holes tended to end up in the wrong places. But then we used a scrap piece that already had holes drilled as a template. The clamp didn't fit properly on the drill press, so Thomas used duct tape to hold the scrap piece on.  We also had to thread the channel ends ourselves.

Naturally, the flywheels need to be spinning pretty darn fast. So we have a nice big gear stack. The kicker? It's still too small. The wheels don't spin quite fast enough.

We're going to have a fundraiser starting next week, selling cards. So tell everyone you know, and we'll post a link so you can support us and get great deals on greeting cards.
That's caught up to today. We'll blog again next week, with more pics and updates.
